Book Review - Boy Meets Girl: Say Hello to Courtship

This past weekend I finished reading "Boy Meets Girl: Say Hello to Courtship" by Joshua Harris. I heartily encourage all Christian singles out there - whether you are 16 or 36 - to read this book. It not only gives you encouragement for your future, but also teaches you contentment for the position you are now at in life. Below is the synopsis of the book as well as my rating and review of the book.

THE BOOK:

If you're fed up with self-centered relationships that end in disillusionment, it's time to rethink romance. Finding the loving, committed relationship you want shouldn't mean throwing away your hopes, your integrity, or your heart.

In Boy Meets Girl, Joshua Harris - the guy who kissed dating goodbye - makes the case for courtship. As old-fashioned as it might sound, courtship is what modern-day relationships desperately need. Think of it as romance chaperoned by wisdom, cared for by community, and directed by God's Word.

Filled with inspiring stories from men and women who have rediscovered courtship, Boy Meets Girl is honest, romantic, and refreshingly biblical. Keep God at the center of your relationship as you discover how to:

Set a clear course for your romance
Get closer without compromise
Find support in a caring community
Deal with past sexual sin
Make the right decisions about your future

MY REVIEW:

I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating!! :-)

Boy Meets Girl was a refreshing read that encourages singles to find peace in trusting their love life to the Lord - the ultimate romance Writer. The book is filled with countless true stories of couples who both did and did not wait for God’s perfect timing in their love story. Harris also tells his own love story with his wife, Shannon, going through their courtship and engagement, discussing their struggles and commitments, and finally, their joyous success and purity on their wedding. Their love story in itself is a beautiful testimony of God's promise to bring your future spouse to you in His perfect time.
There weren’t really any cons to this book, but there is one caution that I would give to a person interesting in reading it: Harris talks plainly and openly about sexual temptations, past sexual sins, and how we should strive for sexual purity until marriage. While I in no way condemn Harris for speaking on this topic (as it is a very important one in our day), I just urge caution if giving this to a young teen to read.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am encouraged and renewed in my determination to remain both physically and emotionally pure until my wedding day. I highly recommend it to all the singles out there!!

If you're looking for a novel based on the same philosophy, you should check out the laugh-out-loud and super-great THE GUY I'M NOT DATING by Trish Perry. It remains one of my favorite books. Funny, insightful, and just plain awesome. =)

I totally agree with you!! This is my favorite dating/courtship book out there. Have you read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Josh Harris? If so, what did you think of it in comparison to this one? (I didn't like "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" much at all, but "Boy Meets Girl" is great in my opinion. I'm wondering what other people think. :))

Thanks for the advice, Roseanna! I'll have to look it up soon!

Step - No, I have not read "I Kissed Dating Goodbye", but I have heard that it did't do too good on the market. So, I can't say what the comparison is between the two books. Sorry about that.

Yes, this is a really good book, and is forever planted in my favorites list!! :-D
