Interview & Giveaway - Julie Lessman

Hey all! I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things here on the internet. I have several giveaway winners to announce, and then also a picture post to catch y'all up on why I've been so silent this past week. :-) I'm still working on both of those posts, but for now, I have a great interview to bring to you today.

It's with Julie Lessman!!! Yeah, I am so honored to get to have her here on LoaW. Make sure you read the directions carefully to find out how you could win a copy of any of her books. It's the winners choice which one you want!! Awesome, no?!

~~
Julie, welcome to Legacy of a Writer! So glad you could visit today, as I know your writing life keeps you plenty busy, not including your personal one! For anyone who might be new to Julie and her books, here is her bio...

Julie Lessman is an award-winning author whose tagline of “Passion With a Purpose” underscores her intense passion for both God and romance. Winner of the 2009 ACFW Debut Author of the Year and Holt Medallion Awards of Merit for Best First Book and Long Inspirational, Julie is also the recipient of 13 Romance Writers of America awards and was voted by readers as “Borders Best of 2009 So Far: Your Favorite Fiction”. Chosen as #1 Romance Fiction Author of the Year in the Family Fiction magazine 2011 Readers Choice Awards, Julie was also awarded #1 Series of the Year in that same poll and #3 Author of the Year, #5 Novel of the Year and #4 Historical Fiction Author of the year. She resides in Missouri with her husband, daughter, son and daughter-in-law and is the author of “The Daughters of Boston” series, which includes A Passion Most Pure, A Passion Redeemed, and A Passion Denied. Her “Winds of Change” series has recently released with A Hope Undaunted, which ranked #5 on Booklist’s Top 10 Inspirational Fiction for 2010. You can contact Julie through her website at www.julielessman.com.

So to start this all of, what sparked your interest in romance and how has this impacted your writing?

Four life-altering words: Gone With the Wind. You see, when I read that novel at the age of twelve, I was swept away into the world of romance for the very first time. It captured me like no other book had done, and I immediately set out to write (along with thousands of other love-struck young girls, I’m sure), what I hoped would be “the great American novel.” Obviously my dreams of grandeur didn’t go anywhere, but I did write 150 single-spaced pages of a story that became the basis (some forty years later!) for my debut novel, A Passion Most Pure.

Today, I like to think that not only are Margaret Mitchell’s fingerprints are all over me in my religious devotion to passion, but God’s as well—merging my passion for romance with my passion for Him.
Gone With the Wind seems to have inspired many. So neat how that first story you wrote sparked the idea for A Passion Most Pure. Amazing! So, you’ve joked about being the “Queen of Rejections.” Can you tell us a little about that?

Uh, yeah … anyone who attended the 2005 ACFW Conference will remember me as the poor slob who waved her hands wildly in the back of the room when Brandilyn Collins asked who had the most rejections in a year. I won hands-down with 19 (at that time) and went on to garner in excess of 45 (both agent and publisher rejections, including three received AFTER I signed a 3-book contract with Revell Publishing!). Even my agent, Natasha Kern, blanched a bit when she first signed me, realizing after the ink was dry just how many times I’d been rejected. I believe the word she used was “daunting.” But apparently not too daunting for her amazing skills as an agent because she landed a contract for me within six months. Imagine my shock and awe when a few years later I stood on the same stage on which I’d received that booby prize for the most rejections, to receive ACFW’s Debut Book of the Year. Go ahead— pinch me!

Wow. Now THAT is an amazing story! (And a big encouragement to those of us still trying to get published. Never give up! ;-) What would you like your readers to take away from your books?

The MOST important thing I pray readers take away from my books is the reality of how natural and fulfilling an intimate relationship with God can and SHOULD be. Like breathing. These books may be fiction, but this is NOT a fairy tale here. It IS possible to have a living, breathing relationship with the God of the Universe. He’s crazy about us, and if most people really understood that, their lives would turn on a dime and blessings would overtake them. Believe me, I KNOW this firsthand—I used to be a hard, cynical, coarse human being before God pulled me up by the scruff of the neck and said, “Yo, Julie! Get a clue. You’re the apple of my eye!” :-) He’s been the love of my life ever since.

That is one thing I've noticed in your books, a natural and very personal relationship with God. I love it! I totally agree with you there! Can you tell us a little bit about your latest release, A Heart Revealed?

A Heart Revealed is book 2 in “The Winds of Change” series, and it’s the forbidden love story of the oldest O’Connor brother, Sean O’Connor, a confirmed bachelor, and his sister’s best friend, Emma Malloy, a battered married woman. Here’s my blurb:

The ring on her hand belongs to one man …
But her heart belongs to another.

As a battered woman, Emma Malloy fled Dublin for Boston ten years ago, seeking shelter for a heart badly bruised by both her husband and guilt. But when she falls in love with Sean O’Connor, a confirmed bachelor who wrestles with demons of his own, fear and shame almost destroy her … until she is finally set free by a heart revealed.

And, dear readers, I can tell you that it is one amazing story. If you don't believe me, read my review (where I rave on and on about it). So, getting back on track...What makes Emma and Sean’s romance unique?

Emma and Sean’s romance in A Heart Revealed is not my typical romance where boy meets girl and sparks fly. Instead, it is a ten-year friendship that grows spiritually and emotionally, ripening into unconditional love where two people sacrifice themselves for the other. In many ways, A Heart Revealed is a departure for me—a heroine who is scarred, both inside and out, and a forbidden love with minimal romantic interaction. You see, Emma Malloy is married, a battered woman who fled Dublin to seek shelter for a heart badly bruised by an abusive husband. But when she falls in love with Sean O’Connor, a confirmed bachelor with demons of his own, fear and shame wreaks havoc in her life until God finally sets her free with “a heart revealed.”

The fact that Sean and Emma's romance spanned so many years and was born of their close friendship was probably my favorite part of it. Physical appeal didn't come until their friendship was strong and deep. Loved it! What do you hope readers take away from A Heart Revealed?

One of the basic themes of A Heart Revealed is “honesty is the best policy.” Every character in this story is struggling with some form of honesty with people they love, whether it’s guilt, delusion, deception, secrecy, manipulation or outright stubbornness. It is my hope that Sean and Emma’s story will not only “reveal” the grace and mercy of a loving God, but the healing power of His truth … which truly does set us free.

Honesty is a good policy, haha! It was funny watching all these couples learn that the hard way. So, can you tell us about Emma, the gentle and scarred heroine in A Heart Revealed? How did you come to write a story about her?

Believe it or not, I never planned to write Sean and Emma’s story until three-quarters of the way through A Passion Redeemed, when Charity brought Emma home for dinner. The moment I wrote the following very innocent lines in that book, I felt a spark of something that I KNEW would grow into an amazing love story someday.

Marcy smiled and passed the rolls. “Sean, Charity brought her good friend home to stay. Emma, this is Sean, my oldest.”
Sean stood and extended his hand across the table, his smile as broad as his reach. “Welcome. Anyone who can put up with this sister of mine has to be the genuine article.”
Charity smacked him.
Emma blushed. “Nice to meet you, Sean.”
“Emma, Charity tells me you and she met at Shaw’s and that you’ve worked there forever.” Faith dolloped potatoes on her plate, then handed them off to Collin.
Emma gave her a crooked smile. “Yes, I was actually Mrs. Shaw’s top sales clerk before Charity came on the scene. Dublin’s gentry took one look at her and pushed me aside.”
“Oh, pshaw. Don’t believe her. It took me a solid six months to catch up.” Charity removed a roll from the basket, eyed the lighter one on Brady’s plate and switched it with hers. He stared her down, but she ignored him.
“What happened to your face?” Katie asked.
“Katie Rose!” Marcy, Faith and Charity’s voices rang in shock.
Emma smiled. “No, it’s a natural question and one I don’t mind answering. I got in the way of a pan of hot grease, I’m afraid.”
Katie’s eyes bugged. “How did you do that?”
“Katie, zip it,” Charity warned.
“Someone accidentally threw it in my face.”
Forks, knives and spoons stilled as all eyes focused on Emma.
Charity cleared her throat and elbowed Sean, who stared as if Emma had just announced she was from the moon. “So, Sean, Mother tells me you finally wrangled a promotion.”
He chewed slowly, his eyes still fixed on Emma. He swallowed and turned to his sister. “Yeah, I did. Don’t look now, sis, but you’re rubbing shoulders with the Assistant Manager of the largest hardware mercantile in south Boston. Not to mention future manager of a new store.”
One of her brows slanted up. “Well, well. Must be those dangerous good looks drawing all the ladies in to buy nuts and bolts.”
He grinned and chomped on a roll. “Must be.”

Oh, and by the way, Emma’s name was originally Myrna. I know, I know, not as appropriate as “Emma,” but keep in mind that originally, Emma was to be just a comical bit character in the beginning of A Passion Redeemed. However, just like Cluny McGee was only meant to be a bit character in A Passion Denied (but charmed me into making him a huge subordinate character), “Myrna” charmed me as well when she came to Charity’s defense over and over again. I fell in love with her gentle loyalty so much, that I made her a critical part of the story in A Passion Redeemed.

Wow, that's just amazing that you never planned to write Emma and Sean's story before that scene. (Oh, and I'm glad you changed her name to Emma! ;-) Before we close this up, can you tell us how readers can find you on the Internet or get in touch with you?

I LOVE to hear from reader friends, so they can contact me through my Web site at www.julielessman.com, either by sending an e-mail via my site or by signing up for my newsletter at http://www.julielessman.com/sign-up-for-newsletter/. My newsletter is chock-full of fun info on my books and there’s always a contest featuring signed book giveaways including one right now to have a character named after you or a loved one in my next book. Also, I have a cool feature on my website called “Journal Jots” (http://www.julielessman.com/journal-jots/), which is a very laid-back, Friday journal to my reader friends that would give your readers an idea as to my relaxed style of writing. Then finally, I can be found daily at The Seekers blog (http://seekerville.blogspot.com/), a group blog devoted to encouraging and helping aspiring writers on the road to publication.

JULIE DARLING!

I'm so glad you wrote this book. I knew from the moment I saw that scene that if you didn't write it, I was going to have to come hunt you down and have you tell me the story ;).

My fave book? The one that's staring at me. Waiting for me to read it. Laughing every time I walk by. I can hear them you know ;). I'm soooooo looking forward to AHR but had/have some others that have to be done for a variety of reasons first :(. Love AHU too!

I'm a Twitter follower now, Katie! :) I'll be a follower momentarily.

Julie, your books are fantastic!! Can't wait to read Sean and Emma's story! If I know your books like I think I do, this one will be my new favorite because each book gets better than the last. I don't know of any author that writes like you do, Julie and that is a compliment because your books keep me interested. Most other Christian fiction is the same boring story- girl meets guy. They hang out. Then they get engaged at the end. Yours is different. There is always something going on Love Ya, Julie!!

Well, since Julie Lessman's books just keep getting better and better... and I just finished reading A Heart Revealed YESTERDAY, I have to say, it's my favorite one so far. Even though I bought it at the ACFW conference a few weeks ago (where Julie herself overheard me gushing about her and her books before her session "A Kiss is NOT just a Kiss" and gave me a quick hug in gratitude!) I would love to have another copy to pass around to the girls in my small group and church. I produced another devoted reader for Julie just yesterday when I had my friend download A Hope Undaunted free on kindle.

Thanks Katie!!

And THANK YOU Julie Lessman!!!

Carol - Hmm, not sure whats up. You can become a follower two ways. 1) right below the poll and above my visitor tracker gadget, there should be a "followers" section where you can become one. That one doesn't always show up, so you can also 2) run your cursor along the top of the blog. The bar along the top should pop and you can click "follow" there.

Hope that works! If not, no worries. I'll still include you in the giveaway, as it's probably my blog's fault that you can't find the Followers section! :-)

Carol Moncado said...

I see the followers section but there's nothing there. And I don't see the bar... but I am following - promise ;). Thanks, Katie!

I've got all the books too, Dawn! But have a friend who needs them... :D

WHOA, BABY, you guys have been BIZZY here!!

First of all, I want to thank Katie for hosting me on her wonderful blog AND for an OUTSTANDING review on AHR -- MUCH appreciated, my friend.

AND I want to let you guys all know that ALL MONTH LONG my group blog, The Seekers" (http://www.seekerville.blogspot.com/) are celebrating our 4th birthday by giving away gift cards, books, critiques, a Kindle, a Netbook and LOTS of other cool things, so be sure to stop by to comment everyday because every comment is an entry!!

1.) The top winner will get a character named after them in my next book, A Trust Restored, PLUS win their choice of a signed copy of any of my books INCLUDING A Trust Restored AND their choice of a new or almost-new top CBA book from my personal library.

2.) Any one who subscribes to my Journal Jots (and yes, the button works now!) and lets me know tomorrow in a comment will be entered in a separate drawing for their choice of one of my first five books or their choice of a top CBA book from my personal library.

CAROL!!!!!!! You're hearing laughter every time you walk past A Heart Revealed??? Uh ... have you had this checked out, honey? :)

Hugs,

Julie Lessman said...

ASHLEY!!!! Cannot BELIEVE I skipped over you, my friend!! As my schoolteacher aunt would say -- "Demerits!"

Thank you SO VERY MUCH for your incredibly kind comments -- they blessed the socks off of me, sweetie, because I always appreciate a reader friend who likes drama and angst (and passion) like I do because it's definitely a far cry from the safe and sweet romances that sell like hotcakes in the CBA.

And I can't wait for you to read Sean and Emma's story either, so be sure to comment on my Seeker blog tomorrow as well for two more chances to win! Good luck!

Hugs,
Julie

Julie Lessman said...

Hey, PATTY, actually A Passion Most Pure has been the hands-down favorite of most of my reader friends ... that is, until Sean and Emma's story hit the stores. Now I keep getting e-mails from dear reader friends, telling me A Heart Revealed is now their favorite, so that blesses me. I would say of all my heroines, Faith and Emma are the two kindest and most spiritual, which may account for the popularity of their books among my readership.

Here's to a win, my friend, and like I said above, check out my Seeker blog tomorrow for two more chances, okay?

Hugs,
Julie

Julie Lessman said...

WFNREN!!! Oh boy, oh boy, do I LOVE new readers like you!! People who have NO idea what to expect in a Julie Lessman novel. Soooo fun!!

So we definitely need to get one of these books in your hot, little hands, girl, so here's to a win, either here or on my Seeker blog tomorrow OR check out my website calendar for a few more opportunities coming up, okay?

Good luck!

Hugs,
Julie

Julie Lessman said...

DAWN!!!!!!!!!! Sooooo good to see you here, sweetie, and thank you again for attenting Ruth's and my workshop. We had a blast, so I hope you did too. Uh, and hope you recovered from the off-key singing ...

And THANK YOU, THANK YOU, my friend, for your wonderful word of mouth -- that is everything to an author today, so BLESS YOU!! I would LOVE to get a book in your hands for your small-group girls and the church library, so I'm saying one for a win for you, either here or on Seekerville tomorrow where there will be two chances to win. GOOD LUCK, you sweet thing. :)

Hugs,
Julie

I think it is impossible for me to name a favorite book that Julie wrote; I've read and liked them all very much. If I HAD to pick a favorite, it would probably be the one I was currently reading. If you have not read a Julie Lessman book, find them somewhere, anywhere, and read them in order. You won't be sorry you took the time. I'm looking forward to the next book, Steven's story, with mixed feelings. I'm anxious to continue the story of the O'Connor family but will be sad to have it end with that book (unless Julie writes Patrick and Marcy's prequel).

GOLDEN!!! Gosh, it is wonderful to see you here, my friend -- THANK YOU for coming by!!

And I finally decided I didn't care what my older sisters said about "mature" women (a term that does NOT fit me at all mentally or emotionally, I'm afraid!) not being able to wear long hair. I happen to LOVE long hair and it is the easiest for me to care for (I literally just comb it every day and tuck behind my ears, then slightly iron/curl when I go out -- SOOOO easy!!). So thank you for your sweet comment.

Trust me, girl, I TOTALLY relate on the TBR list looming like a towering shadow!! Most days I'm lucky to get the Bible read, and I wish I had more time to read those books I really WANT to read ... books such as yours! I LOVED your second book even more than the first, if that's possible, but have not yet been able to nab the third, which I need to do because you have another wonderful-sounding one coming out soon, right, and then I'll be behind AGAIN! :)

Hope all is well and I missed you at ACFW this year -- were you there???

Hugs,
Julie

Hey, ABBY, thanks SO much for reading AHU -- it's actually my fave of all the books I've written, although a huge # of my reader friends are saying that A Heart Revealed is now their fave, so we shall see.

Please keep in mind that AHR starts off a lot more slowly than AHU because Sean and Emma have been good friends for ten years who S-L-O-W-L-Y fall in love before they even realize it, so there's not the same romantic passion between then that you see between Katie and Luke. BUT ... Katie and Luke and Charity and Mitch have some pretty steamy sub plots, so that saves the day on the romantic passion ... :)

Good luck in the contest!

Hugs, Julie

MARGARET!!!! Say it ain't so -- you haven't read any of my books yet?? Oh, girl, YES, dive in to AHU PLEASE because I'm dying to see what you think! And if you can't start with the first book in the entire O'Connor saga, A Passion Most Pure, then A Hope Undaunted is a good alternative to kick off this passionate saga, so I hope you enjoy it. It's my fave of all the books I've written so far, so happy reading!! And GOOD LUCK in the contest, sweetie. :)

Hugs,
Julie

And, YES, if you win this blog giveaway (or any of my others ... I have two on Seekerville tomorrow, so be sure to stop by), I will be THRILLED to send you A Passion Most Pure because this really is a saga that is best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1. That's not to say that you can't read them alone and out of order because you certainly can. It's just that the reading experience is enhanced when you read them in consecutively.

Good luck in the contest!! :)

Also, like I told Faith, Hope & Cherry Tea in the above comment, PLEASE swing by my Seeker blog for TWO more chances to win, okay? That giveaway ends tomorrow night. GOOD LUCK!

Hugs,

Julie Lessman said...

CARRIE!!! Thanks for swinging by, you sweet thing, you, and I have to admit, I am a littttttle nervous having you -- a licensed psychologist -- read a book I wrote on spousal abuse and deep-seated guilt. Hope it's believable to someone of your professional nature. :) Let me know if you like it, okay? And if you don't ... like I told a few people on your blog a few weeks ago ... uh, never mind! ;) GOOD LUCK in the contest, sweetie. :)

Hugs,
Julie

Julie Lessman said...

TEELA!!!! LOVE the name, girl -- is that your given name or a nickname?

It sounds to me like you haven't read one of my books before, so hopefully we can remedy that on Katie's blog this week. BUT ... if you don't win here, PLEASE check out my website calendar for more opportunities AND you have another TWO chances to win over at my Seekerville blog where I am giving away books AND the winner will have a character named after them in my next book, so swing on by and leave a comment for a chance to win. But please hurry as my Seeker blog giveaway ends tomorrow night.

The good news is that if you win here on Katie's blog or mine, I will be HAPPY to send you the first book in the series, A Passion Most Pure. It won American Christian Fiction Writers 2009 Debut Book of the Year and is a series that is best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1. So, GOOD LUCK in the contest and here's to a win!

Hugs,
Julie

VICKIE, thanks SO much for coming by and for your interest in my books. I always get a little tingle at the prospect of a new reader discovering the wonders of the O'Connor family, a close-knit family where faith and passion thrive!

And if you don't mind, I'll tell you what I told Teela above -- If you win, I will be HAPPY to send you the first book in the series, A Passion Most Pure, which won American Christian Fiction Writers 2009 Debut Book of the Year. The reason is that this is a series best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1. A Heart Revealed (the featured book today) is the 5th book in the O'Connor saga).

To increase your chances of a win, you may also want to enter my Seekerville contest (It seems like I saw you there yesterday, but I couldn't find your comment, so if you haven't gone there yet, you may want to). The winner not only wins their choice of my books, but will also have a character named after them in my next book, plus their choice of a top CBA book from my personal library. You can find the link on my website calendar, okay? So, GOOD LUCK in the contest and here's to a win!

Hugs,
Julie

MELANIE!!! YAY ... another avid reader who hasn't read my books yet. And, YES, if you win, I will definitely send you the first book in the series, A Passion Most Pure, which won American Christian Fiction Writers 2009 Debut Book of the Year. The reason is that this is a series best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1. And thanks for coming by my Seeker blog yesterday, sweetie -- GOOD LUCK in both contests!!

Hey, PAULA ... yeah, it was pretty nuts over in Seekerville, wasn't it, though? Seeker blog days are always pretty busy for me, but nothing like yesterday, during our birthday month with all the prizes we're giving away!! I literally sat on my chaise out on my deck from morning till night, responding to comments nonstop. WHEW!! Don't think I could handle that many comments every month!

Anyway, thank you SO much for coming by -- both there and here -- AND for reading my books! MUCH appreciated, my friend! Good luck in the contest. :)

All of Julie's books are favorites of mine, but I would have to say that my absolute favorite - so far - is 'A Passion Redeemed'. It changed how I viewed Charity in such an unbelievable way! I thought there was no way I would ever like her, but came to love her - in fact she is now my favorite character!

Well, since the only book of Julie's that I have read is AHU, I guess I have to say that is my favourite so far. HOWEVER, Julie ... I think because AHR starts of more slowly, as you're saying, that will probably suit me down to a tea! :P All cheek aside, I am really intrigued by Sean & Emma, and I have a feeling I might like their story even more than Katie & Lukes.

Have just recently become a fan of Julie Lessman's writing and can't wait to read another book by her. She is discussed a lot in Goodread's Christian Fiction Devourers group.

Julie Lessman said...

LORAINE!!! Thank you SO much for becoming a "reader friend" (the word "fan" makes me cringe because it tends to separate when really, we are all just women who have passion for God and romance, right?).

And seriously? I'm discussed a lot on Goodreads Christian Fiction Devourer's Group??? No wonder my ears always burn! ;) Do you think you could post the link in comment for me so that I can go crash the discussion?? I am SO Goodreads illiterate, much to my dismay. I am a member, but ONLY so I could post a review for a friend of mine, so I seldom navigate the site and wouldn't have a CLUE where to look for the discussion group you're talking about.

Thanks SO much for your encouraging comment AND for reading my books. Good luck in the contest, my friend.

Hugs,
Julie

I think the first one, A Passion Most Pure is my favorite. It's the first one I read. I read it again recently, which says how much I enjoyed it. I never read a book more than once unless I know it is one that I can be friends with.

Julie Lessman said...

LINDSEY, YAY!!! I'm with you -- A Hope Undaunted is my fave of all the books I've written, so I always get tickled when someone agrees with me. And you're right -- Luke's character (and his charisma and devotion to family and his sacrificial love) makes him hands-down one of the best heroes I've had the privilege to write to date.

Thanks for coming by to leave a comment, and good luck in the contest, sweetie.

I LOVE all of Julie Lessman's books! A Passion Most Pure was my most favorite until... I read A Hope Revealed! all of Julie's books capture me from the 1st line and keep me captivated until the very last chapter... and yes, I have stayed up late at night to try and finish a book...or skimmed ahead to see what happens! until i promised Julie I wouldn't read the last chapter in A Hope Revealed! grin... it wasn't easy!!
I realize that I think of these characters in Julie's books as real... it's just so realistic, I think that Julie is actually observing a family and writing about them!... and then at other times, I realize that Julie is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit and her writing truly gives me a desire to know Jesus more personally every day! I love that her books aren't just entertaining, exciting, passionate... they are also very inspiring and encouraging...each one of them has spoken deeply to me and pointed me back to a more passionate, deep relationship with Jesus..and my hubby of course! lol...
keep writing! Julie... you are amazing!!
I also think that you need to keep writing about the OConnor's! I want to know what happens to the grandhildren!! :) Jo

Julie Lessman said...

JO!!! Your encouragement ALWAYS makes my day, my friend, so THANK YOU for always being there to encourage, bless and pray for me. You are a keeper, girlfriend!!

And trust me, I fully intend to write trilogies about the O'Connor cousins during WWII (can you see Hope, Henry and Gabe in a series???), but that won't be for a while AND these two series will have to do well and continue to do well for that to happen, so we shall see.

Have a blessed weekend, you sweet thing, and you never did send me a recent pic ... :)

Hugs,
Julie

My favorite book that I've read so far is A Passion Denied. But ever since I met Emma in the second book, I've so been wanting to hear about her story. I can't wait to read this one. :) Maybe this will be my new favorite just basing it on all the reviews I've read.

Hey, CYNTHIA, SO good to see you, sweetie, and I think I remember you telling me a while back that you sensed a romance coming down the road for Emma and Sean based on that very dinner scene in A Passion Redeemed that I posted above in Katie's interview.

I have a feeling you are really going to enjoy Sean and Emma's story, I think because I sense you are a very sweet and sensitive person, so I suspect Emma will hold great appeal for you. I will warn you, however, that this is a much slower story than say, A Hope Undaunted or A Passion Redeemed, in which there were fireworks right out the gate, because the first half of AHR is devoted to the further growth of a ten-year friendship that slowly ripens into love. WHICH is why Katie and Luke's and Charity and Mitch's sub stories are so "hot," because let's face it, I have to get my romance in somewhere, don't I???

But ... rest assured that the last third of AHR really starts to cook and take off into the angst, passion and drama I SO love to inflict on the O'Connors AND my readers, so buckle up, girl, okay? :)

Hugs,
Julie

REBEKAH!!! I LOVE meeting readers who have never read any of my books because it's SO much fun to introduce you to the O'Connors -- one of the most PASSIONATE families you will find in the CBA!! :)

And, YES, if you do win here, I will be happy to send you the very first book in this saga, A Passion Most Pure, which won American Christian Fiction Writers Debut Book of the Year in 2009. This is really a series best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1, so I SO appreciate you wanting to start at the beginning.

Hey, Gwendolyn, I'm SO glad you have a copy of AHU, hopefully from the free download. AHU is my favorite of all my books, so I hope you like it too. Although it is book 1 in the Winds of Change Series, it is actually book 4 in the the O'Connor Family saga, but you will still be able to follow the history, I think. If you can possibly borrow book 1, A Passion Most Pure, from a friend or the library, I would try and read that first because this is really a series best read in order due to a number of big surprises in book 1.

BUT ... if you are just looking to find out what my books are like, then AHU is a good book with which to start, so no worries about that.

If you win on this blog, I will be HAPPY to send you APMP first, okay?

Good luck in the contest! :)
